No matter where your gym is, it isn’t difficult for the typical gym idiot who gets on your nerves every now and then. How to spot them? Well, here are the top five signs.
1. Bicep Curling In The Squat Rack
It’s your leg day .You are wearing that thick power-lifting leather belt. You are all fired up and the pre-workout’s kicking. But when you approach the squat rack, you see a dude doing bicep curls in the squat rack. I don’t know about you but when I see this happening on my leg day, I literally want to ban that guy from gym or they end up getting a free lecture on gym etiquettes from me. Squat rack is meant for doing heavy lifts such as Squat, Rack pulls, Overhead presses, etc. Barbell curls can be done literally anywhere but these lifts can’t be. So please respect that.
2. You Are A Walking Brand Shop
I miss the good old gym times when people wore their old, rugged and worn out clothes during the workout. After all, you are going to the gym to work out, not to show off. Don’t get me wrong here. There’s nothing wrong in wearing your favorite workout apparel. Just don’t be that guy who is blatantly displaying brands from head to toe and doesn’t work out a dime. Your clubwear t-shirt and fancy compression pants, nipples popping out of skimpy stringers are only making you look like an idiot.
3. Using Phone More Than Using Your Body
Now I am not asking you to do as I say but if you find yourself on Tinder swiping right, texting a friend and surfing media in between sets, you are doing it wrong. You may not realize while being engrossed in your phone but the other person, who is waiting for the spot, is cringing for sure. He may or may not tell you to hurry up by looking at the size of your muscles but he definitely wants to throw your phone away.
4. Trying To Engage Someone In A Conversation Who Is Already Working Out

This is the most hilarious one out of all. You are in the middle of a set and this guy who has just walked in to the gym, offers you a handshake. And you are like, ‘dude, should I drop the weight down to shake your hand or what!’ And if he sees you can’t shake hands, he will surely touch you either on shoulder or waist to confirm that he’s social and hasn’t avoided you. Whenever I see this happening, it cracks me up. And just in case you stop and shake hands with him, he will make sure he wastes your time.
5. Drops And Throws The Weights
Don’t be that guy whose brain size is getting smaller, while the muscles get bigger. Banging the weight hard on the floor to grab attention is nothing to be proud about. While some do it simply because they don’t care about the life of equipment, some do it to look macho. They think they own the gym by paying the membership fee. Weight rooms are generally noisy and it’s hard not to make noise while doing deadlifts where weight bangs on the floor but you can certainly lift it under control and re-rack it after using. Throwing around dumb bells is nothing unheard of and makes you an idiot of the highest order.
