7 Celebrity Outfits That Literally Any Guy Can Wear On Diwali

Diwali has the reputation of being a closet troublemaker. While all year we try and do away with unwanted pieces off our closets, the festival comes in and forces us to head to the mall. But while a few of us are jobless (or well, freelancers), the rest of us scrape through 9 to 5 jobs. Point being, most of us don’t have the time. Result: not enough time to go shopping for festivities. For the majority of men hustling for last-minute Diwali outfits, there’s a bible we have compiled here for you. Here are 7 outfits combos that every man can get behind, any second and with just a quick visit to the mall. Even if it’s just a day before Diwali.

1. Long Kurta + Pyjamas

This combo is a cross between comfort, convenience and simple (but effective) style. Plus, there’s no occasion on earth where this combo won’t fit in. Think Diwali parties in the day, tash rallies in the night or another Diwali ‘do at night (with firecrackers this time)—this will never let you down. Depending upon the light in the day (daylight or late evening), pick a colour palette. Pro Tip: Earthy tones can transition from day to night.

2. Kurta + Pyjama + Nehru Jacket

Nehru jackets are style god stuff. They add polish to any outfit you’d wear + complete any dressing combo you’d step into. But well, colour combinations are key here. As cliche as we’d sound, they’d make or break this outfit. The colour of your kurta pyjama set is your primary hue/shade and the Nehru jacket is secondary. However, your secondary colour is more crucial here. In an ideal situation, keep your primaries light hued/neutral and the secondary a little darker or contrasting.

3. Jodhpuri Suit

These suits that fall under the ethnic + formal wear pedigree, are the best options for Diwali parties that lean towards the more formal ones. Where, kolhapuris with kurta pyjamas make way for leather dress shoes (or Shahid’s double monk straps). But keep a close watch on the fit! Slim it down, crop it a few inches below the hips and stick to solid colours, not prints.

4. Aysymmetrical Ethnic Jacket With Trousers

As you may have noticed, there’s no fun in 2016 Diwali gear for 2017. While most of us play safe than going all-out, a few like Mr. Kapoor think otherwise. If you too, are like Ranbir trying to step out of your zone, a simple asymmetrical hemline can do it for you. However, keep the fit a little relaxed here. Clothes are meant to be worn on your body, not glued onto it.

5. Kurta/Linen Button Down + Jeans

Every time you’ve taken a head-first route to a kurta, you’ve paired jeans with it. But times change, age strikes and hence, you need to evolve. That’s where a linen button down steps in. It’s just about appropriate for Diwali Dressing regulations and looks quite cool too. Plus, easy to breathe in (just like a kurta). But if you’re rebellious anyway, wear a goddamn kurta but ensure it snugs you right. Just remember to keep the flip flops away (eww, Mr. Kapoor).

6. Pathani Suit

Over numerous seasons and collections of top ethnic wear brands, the Pathani Suit has seen a constant graph. You’d always find it on a rack or two! And if you’re looking at stepping out of the kurta pyjama combo, all while maintaining your sanity, pick a Pathani suit. Opt for a black one if you’re feeling oozy but in all honesty, we’d suggest you refrain from that colour. It’s Diwali: embrace colours!

7. Bandhgala Jacket + Dhoti Pants

If Mr. Beckham ever lived a festive wear life, he’d be found in Bandhgalas on most days of the week. Reason being, they’re so polished and sophisticated in nature, that you’ll obviously be cleaning up very well everyday. But though, it might seem boring to wear trousers or just pyjamas with it, much like Arjun Kapoor—you too can opt for dhoti pants instead.
