Ever since Google announced their highly anticipated Pixel 2/ Pixel 2 XL, the world has been curious as to which smartphone is better: The iPhone 8 or The Pixel 2? Google may have a firm grip over the software domain, the search engine giant also took a huge leap this year in terms of hardware.
Apple launched a very familiar yet powerful smartphone, but competition is getting hotter and if you are finding reasons why the Pixel 2 is better than the iPhone, we will give you some. Don’t get me wrong, the iPhone 8 has some awesome features that the Pixel 2 lacks but the Google smartphone has a few tricks up its sleeve that blows the iPhone out of the water.
The Camera is one of the best
Both the iPhone 8 and the Pixel 2 have great cameras and in order to find out which one is better, we need to look at the DxO test. The Pixel 2 scored 98 while the iPhone 8 scored 94. The Pixel 2 has a 12-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture, dual pixel phase detection, OIS and laser autofocus. The Pixel 2 can also take bokeh shots using a single lens as compared to the iPhone 8. This is possible because of Google’s superiority in the software game. The front camera on the Pixel 2 can also take bokeh shots which are only available on the iPhone X and not the 8 and 8 Plus.
2. It’s Less Boring
The iPhone 8 has carried over the same design language as the past four generations with the exception of the removal of the headphone jack. Pixel 2 has followed suit when it comes to the removal of the 3.5mm jack, however, it looks different from its predecessor. It features a different look because of the two-tone metallic and glass body. The Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL also happens to be lighter and more compact than the iPhone 8/8Plus which makes it easier to handle and can easily fit in your pockets.
3. Google Assistant Is Smarter
Apple has certainly improved Siri and make it sound more human-like, however a recent study by Stone Temple found that Google Assistant answered correctly 91 percent of the questions asked. The same set of the question was asked to Siri and could only manage 62 percent. The new Active Edge feature lets you squeeze the phone to launch Google Assistant making it more easily accessible than Siri.
4. Unlimited Photo Storage
The marquee feature of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 Xl is the camera lens and in order to complement that feature, Google provides unlimited photo storage. You will get unlimited original-quality (not compressed) storage on Google Photos for the next three years. Apple does not provide iPhone users with anything remotely similar to this and you have to pay extra if you require additional cloud storage.
5. Cheaper Flagship Device
The Google Pixel 2 will retail in India for INR 61,000 for the base model of 64 GB and INR 82,000 for the 128 GB model. That is significantly cheaper than the iPhone 8 as it arrived with a price tag of INR 64,000 for the base model and INR 70,990 for the iPhone 8 Plus. Both devices are flagship devices and don’t really seem cheap, however, if you compare the two; Pixel 2 takes the cake.
6. It Has Fast Charging
The Pixel 2 can get up to 7 hours of power by simply charging it for 15 minutes. This only shows that one can power up the juice in just a few minutes and go about their day. Pixel 2 users will not have not wait a long time for it to have the power again. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus does offer fast charging however you need to purchase a separate adapter and cable to do so. In addition, the iPhone 8 can get half of its battery capacity in only 30 minutes as it has a smaller battery capacity.
7. Better Display
The Pixel 2 looks eerily similar to the iPhone 8, however, if we look at the specs, The Google Pixel 2 simply has a better screen. The Pixel 2 has a 5-inch, 1920 x 1080 AMOLED, 441 PPI display. On the other hand, the Apple iPhone 8 is a 4.7-inch, 1334 x 750 LCD, 326 PPI display. In terms of pure specs, the Pixel 2 has a brighter screen and has a slightly higher pixel density. Pixel 2 also uses AMOLED technology which gives deeper blacks, always on display, more vivid colours and aids in saving battery life.
8. Both Phones Have The Same Feature Set
This is probably my favourite thing about the two Pixel smartphones. Apple forces people to make a choice between two models that have a different set of features. The iPhone 8 Plus has dual cameras which are not present on the smaller model and it even has an extra gigabyte of RAM. Google offers the same features on both smartphones even though they look quite different from each other. Both smartphones are largely the same under the hood (only difference is battery size) and offer the same camera setup and features. This is a huge deal for customers who prefer to have a smaller phone and get the same features as the larger device.
