The first reason that you gain back the lost weight is actually the mindset with which you start your weight loss journey. People often look for a quick fix instead of a long term solution. Crash dieting is recipe for disaster. Diets like GM’s diet may give you quick results in losing a few pounds may be but is it a solution to your problem of excess weight? No, absolutely not. Think about it yourself; can you stay on a severely restricted diet for very long? Create extremcalorie deficit in order to lose weight slows the metabolism. Hence your body starts burning lesser calories at rest which eventually leads to stalled weight loss. Another reason of people regaining weight is that they take weight loss as a task that they have to accomplish. They don’t take is as a part of a better and healthy lifestyle. It’s like they are just waiting for this to end as soon as possible so that they can get back to their normal selves, which is usually eating like a junk food crazed teenager.
How To Tackle It
First things first- you need to prepare a long term sustainable plan that blends in your daily lifestyle. Forget about shortcuts and quick fixes. We are not talking about passing an exam here. We are talking about your body, which you have to keep healthy for longevity. A short term plan will last only for a short period. Therefore, opt for a diet like Low Carb or Zone diet wherein the macros are such that you can follow them easily throughout your life. For such diets, you just need to tweak your eating patterns a little bit and may re-place a few items in your diet. The results will be slower than any of the crash diets, but since you can follow them throughout your life. Moreover, there’s no risk of gaining back the pounds that you will lose. Now let’s talk about mindset. You need to understand that bringing small changes in your lifestyle is going to make you live longer and healthier. It’s not a task to achieve but a journey to enjoy.
Don’t Be Impatient
Initially it may seem a little difficult but if you want to see changes, you will have to leave your comfort zone. A very low calorie diet, sustained for a long time, will screw your metabolic rate. Calorie deficit should ideally be only 500 calories less than your maintenance calories. The process will be slow but at least you won’t gain back the lost kilos.
