Terzo Millennio or the “Third Millennium”, Lamborghini’s futuristic hypercar concept is now out in the open. Yes, it is a concept but we’d like to watch Lamborghini turn it into a reality. Considering they teamed up with some of the best minds from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), we don’t see what could possibly get in the way of making this beauty an actual road warrior.
If the Batmobile were real, it would have to be the Terzo Millennio and we aren’t just saying that because of its matte black exterior and menacing swooping fenders, the vehicle is beyond anything the world has seen, it’s metaphysical!
What’s so special about the Terzo Millennio?
Aside from how heart-wrenchingly beautiful it is, the vehicle packs a promise for eco-friendly function without any compromise on the performance. The vehicle is being engineered to store as well as re-generate power for long lasting performance. What does that mean and how exactly are the marque automobile makers planning to achieve this feat?
Heard of supercapacitors?
If not, let’s just say, for the sake of simplicity, they are advanced battery-like instruments that generate and release power almost instantly. So let’s say you’re speeding in an electric or hybrid car and apply brakes, its supercapacitors would store the power generated to reach that speed and once you take your foot off of the brakes, they would release the stored energy to re-power the vehicle (that’s regenerative brakes explained, if you will).
Moral of the story– no loss of power. Remember your dad asking you to not accelerate your fossil-fuel powered car when you know you’re about to brake in front of a traffic signal because fuel pumped in once is fuel lost, spoiling the fuel economy? Well, in the Terzo Millennio, that concept doesn’t apply because power is never lost, so your dad wouldn’t say that to you if you were driving this baby.
That’s what the Terzo Millennio promises, except on a much larger scale and beyond just regenerative braking. The brains at MIT are hard at work with Lamborghini, trying to develop a smart carbon fibre bodywork that could also become a reservoir of energy and can self heal. Huh?
Yup, the bodywork of the vehicle has been envisioned to fix itself of minor cracks and dents. Given the dangerously low floor of the vehicle, one could expect the splitter to almost graze against the ground or any raised surface that may come in its wake– self healing would come in handy there. So it’s not only futuristic, it’s almost human!
Since energy is everything in the Terzo Millennio, the vehicle may be electric, and Lamborghini has upped the powertrain by giving each of the tyres their very own electric motors. It’s a no brainer that the vehicle will come with a lot of power.
To be honest they had our affection the moment we laid eyes on the slit LED headlamp revealing teaser itself, the ideas have got our heads spinning with excitement.
