Musk Confirms Higher End Tesla Roadster Could Do 0-100kmph In Less Than 1.9 Seconds

We had a hunch that Elon Musk had something special planned for the higher end Tesla Roadster 2020 and we are happy to announce we were right (it’s fun being able to say we told you so)! Just a few days ago, Musk unveiled the new Roadster that took the automobile industry by storm. Here’s a video of the new Roadster going off like a gunshot, in sound and speed, it’s so delicious it’ll make your mouth water.

Musk promised that the new Roadster would go from 0-100kmph in 1.9 seconds, which makes it a record smasher for production cars by acceleration standards. It beat the Maxximus G-Force’s 2.1 second record like it meant nothing! Tesla’s reigning vehicle, Model S, was doing it in 2.28 seconds, which was a remarkable feat by itself.

The world stopped spinning for a moment when the announcement of the base model of the new Roadster overtaking the Model S was made. That made it the quickest car in the world. Not many, however, were able to catch on to the rather obvious “base model” connotation.

Much like the new Roadster, we were quick to hang on to Musk’s words. The base model could accomplish 0-100kmph in 1.9 seconds, and the higher end models may do it in even quicker. If you don’t believe us, read Musk’s tweets yourself, here they are:

Aha! Does that excite you now? Are you shifting uncomfortably in your car seat now? We are having a hard time sitting straight for sure because if under 1.9 seconds, how much under 1.9 seconds? Also, what is this “special option package” he’s talking about? Is it another Ludicrous update? Just how is the goddamned genius pulling this off? What exactly is this “Rocket Tech” that he’s talking about?

We already know that Musk has mastered the art of torque vectoring. For the uninitiated, torque vectoring is a fascinating concept of controlling the power sent to the wheels of a vehicle through a smart ass differential. Like in the case of Tesla, the motors can be controlled through software updates, which is how the Model S was able to set the 2.28 second record post the Ludicrous update. So, is the new Roadster a product of improved torque vectoring– Probably. We’ll have to wait to find out about the “Rocket Tech” application.

We also cannot rule out that the improved design and powertrain of the vehicle may add to it’s speedy finesse. The Roadster is also much smaller than the Model S sedan and most definitely will be lighter than it too. So, if you look at it keeping these changes in mind, it’s not that big of a deal. But under 1.9 seconds, that’s a big effing deal! That is something worth waiting till 2020 for.

Can you imagine making a car that pumps torque of such extreme standards being street legal? The new Roadster is every bit worth the $200,000 and the special option package will definitely be worth every additional penny it costs. We are talking about alien acceleration speeds here! We’re on edge Musk, show us what you’ve got. Fingers and toes crossed!
