The discovery of a bizarre ‘sea-monster’ like creature off the Portugal coast has left scientists gobsmacked.
According to reports, scientist working on a EU research and conservation mission captured a terrifying-looking shark species.
They say the species belongs to the ‘age of dinosaurs,’ and the scientists from Portugal’s Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) have dubbed the catch a “living fossil”.
The species which dates back 80 million years, measured 5ft in length and was captured at a depth of 2,300 ft off the resort of Portimao.
The shark has a long, slim, snake-like body and has 300 teeth arranged in 25 rows “which allows it to trap squid, fish and other sharks in sudden lunges,” according to Margarida Castro of the University of the Algarve, reports RT.
Fascinating or scary, you decide!
