While Rajkummar Rao starrer Newton couldn’t top the box office charts in India, it is for sure receiving the recognition it deserves. The Amit V. Masurkar directorial, which is India’s official entry for the foreign language film for the Oscars 2018, has won two accolades at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Brisbane recently.
While Rajkummar Rao won the Best actor’s award for the movie, Mayank Tewari and Amit V. Masurkar were honoured for best screenplay.

Rajkummar Rao, who came to receive the honour with a broken ankle, said it was worth to travel this far despite his injury. “This is very encouraging… It inspires me to work harder everyday. Congratulation to fellow nominees, your performances have inspired all of us. Let us keep doing this beautiful work making these wonderful stories. Let us keep doing that. Here is to cinema,” he said while accepting the award.
Rao left the stage after saying the aforementioned only to return to add, “I am sorry. Can I take 10 more seconds? It is very important. It was a hard time for us to make this film. When I was shooting for this film, my dear mother passed away. We were shooting in the forests of Chhattisgarh. It is because of her blessings, I believe that ‘Newton’ is getting all these appreciations. So thank you mom and I love you.”
Congratulations, Rajkummar Rao. We are all proud of you!
