Indian seam bowling sensation Bhuvneshwar Kumar is all set to tie the nuptial knot with his family friend Nupur Nagar on 23 November. The right-arm bowler has also dropped out of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka due to his marriage ceremony.
But, while everyone is talking about Bhuvi’s wedding bash, not many know that another exciting talent is set to begin his second innings next month. Krunal Pandya, who is known for his all-round capabilities for Mumbai Indians, is scheduled to get married to Pankhuri Sharma on 27 December at a five-star hotel in Mumbai.
“We will marry in a ceremony attended by family members and close relatives. On the same evening, a reception will be organized. I am very happy that I am marrying a girl who is more like a friend and understands me,” Krunal was quoted as saying by TOI.
“She is a friend of my friend. We met at a common gathering two years ago and developed a liking for each other. We both are of same age and get along a lot. What I like about her is her simplicity and supportive nature,” he added.
On the other hand, Krunal’s proposal to Pankhuri for marriage was nothing short of a romantic Bollywood movie. The 26-year-old chose the perfect setting for asking the all-important question. Earlier this year, Krunal had won the 2017 Indian Premier League title with Mumbai Indians. And, on the back of an emphatic win, he proposed his love-interest for marriage.
“Well, I proposed her for marriage after our team Mumbai Indians became champions in the IPL this year. I was awarded man of the match in the finals and I thought it was the right time,” he said.
After dating him for almost two years, Pankhuri wasted no time in saying yes to Krunal’s marriage proposal.
“Pankhuri immediately said yes. My family too is very happy. I believe that if you find the right partner then the relationship is the best part of your life. I found the right girl,” he added.
Affectionate towards Krunal, Pankhuri – who ideally had no interest in cricket – understands the importance of the game in the life of her soon-to-be-husband. She has even started watching cricket matches, but only the ones that feature Krunal.
“Cricket has and always remain my top priority. She (Pankhuri) understands that cricket is my life and supports me. She doesn’t watch the games, except those that I play in,” Krunal revealed.
Drawn to the gentleman’s game due to his father’s love for cricket, Krunal may not be as successful as his younger brother Hardik Pandya, but there’s little doubt about his capabilities with both bat and ball. One of the major reasons why Mumbai managed to bag their third IPL title earlier this year was due to Krunal’s contribution with 243 runs at a strike-rate of 135.75 and 10 wickets at an economy of under seven.
Thanks to his IPL exploits, Krunal also earned his maiden call-up to the India A side for the tour of South Africa in July this year. And, it’s not long before we could very well see both the Pandya brothers playing for the national team, a dream that Krunal hopes to achieve before the 2019 World Cup.
“The aim is not just to represent India for a couple of matches here and there but to play for as long as possible. It would be a dream come true if I and Hardik can together play for India in the 2019 World Cup,” Krunal told The Scroll back in June this year.
