Amazon apparently is going to seek revenge because of Google’s decision to pull YouTube from them. Instead, a filing found at the USPTO shows that the online retailer has filed to trademark the name AmazonTube. Another report suggests that Amazon is also looking for protection on the trademark “OpenTube.” Both names hint at a streaming video feature that Amazon will offer to Echo users.
The complete trademark application submitted by Amazon makes it clear that AmazonTube will offer many of the same features that Google does with YouTube. That includes “software that enables users to designate specific content for future viewing.” Google does have a huge lead in this category with YouTube, which it purchased back in November 2006.
