Multiple users report on the Play Store and Reddit that the most recent update for Google Play Services (v11.7.46, to be exact) has caused their Android devices to experience abnormal battery drain directly traceable back to the Play Services framework. The issue seems to be mostly prevalent on Pixel and OnePlus devices, but no one is immune from Google’s udpate magic.
As you might imagine, that’s not the expected behavior of Google Play Services, which is the fundamental backbone that ensures that a large chunk of all Android apps function as intended. Thus, such a battery drain on the system level is definitely detrimental to the overall user experience.
Luckily, there’s always a fix – while it might sound counterintuitive, some users have come to know that installing the latest available beta version of Google Play Services actually undoes the battery drain introduced by the official Google Play Services v11.7.46 app.
Crazy, we know, but if you’re also experiencing abnormal battery usage relatable to that module, it wouldn’t hurt to install the beta and see if it will also fix the problems for you. The latest one available is Google Play services 11.9.49 beta and can be downloaded from APKMirror
