Most celebrities that we now associate with for donning an incredible physique were nowhere close to the shape we perceive them to be in. In fact, most of them struggled with being overweight or underweight and some even suffered from metabolism or postural issues.
Despite the technology available at hand, not everything can be photoshopped, and special effects can only do so much. The actors and actresses, as well as the cast and crew, put in an inhuman amount of effort to get an actor/actress into the skin of the character.
Physical transformations are probably one of the most arduous to get through and maintain as not only do they require a lifestyle change, they also need the kind of work ethic that is virtually impossible to sustain for the common man.
Nevertheless, following the journey of the some of these actors who’ve gotten through extreme physically transformative feats can help springboard us into pursuing our transformative journey with more vigour, motivation and jest.

The most recent transformation of Ranveer Singh to play a beefed-up Alauddin Khiliji and extremely lean physique in his upcoming films Padmaavati and Gully Boy respectively proves that his flamboyant nature on screen is backed by his unrelenting hard work behind the camera as well as in front of it.
Last year Ranveer posted an inspiring post of his extreme six-week transformation on Instagram. A physique like his took sticking to his regime despite a hectic schedule, which involved working out late into the night or during wee hours in the morning but not once skipping a workout session.
Granted, Chris Hemsworth was always tall, ripped and sculpted in stature, but it’s only after his break with the Marvel Avengers Thor franchise did Chris transform himself into a 400-pound behemoth that could withstand a face-off with the Hulk.
For bulking up an arduous eight times to play the character, Thor, Chris ‘s workout includes a mix of boxing, MMA, kickboxing, weight training, cross training/functional training, not just to look big but also aesthetic.
We’re used to seeing a shredded Jackman as Wolverine ready to rip apart anyone who stands in his way to shreds with his claws. Jackman (at 44) had put on a massive of size, shape, strength and muscular definition since Origins: Wolverine in 2009 (at 31).
His secret? 1000’s of hours of heavy weight lifting manoeuvres, including barbell rows, heavy barbell lunges, squats, etc. This kind of lifting can fuel your testosterone levels enough to pack on massive amounts of muscle, which is what it took for him to maintain his physique for 17 years or so.
Christian Bale is known to get stuck in the skin of the characters he plays, to the point where he pushes his body to extreme lengths to personify the character in every way possible. From dropping to below 120 pounds to play an anorexic, insomniac factory worker in the Machinist to bulking up to 220 pounds to play Batman, Bale is renowned for transforming his physique over the years successfully and dramatically for the various characters he’s played.
His intense workout includes resistance training, martial arts, plyometric circuits, high-intensity training and a whole lot of compound big lifting movements such as squats, lunge and high pulls to kick-start his metabolism every time he had to lose drastic weight to play a different character.
He’s no stranger to physical transformations. From sporting an 8-pack in Ghajini in 2008 to bringing his body fat below 10 percent for Dhoom 3 in 2013 to his awe-inspiring dramatic transformation after a weight gaining spree for Dangal in 2016 (from 68 kilos to 97 kilos and then dropping 25 kilos, which was roughly 30 percent drop in his bodyfat!), Aamir is a master at transforming his physique.
The challenge Aamir had was to maintain his physique ever since his dramatic transformation for Ghajini in 2008, which made it possible to for him to undergo an extreme transformation of his physique every time he needed it for the roles he played through the years.
