ISIS is certainly the most deadly terrorist organisation which has struck in the far corners of the world.
Recently it released disturbing images of Lionel Messi and Neymar and promised to unleash a reign of terror during the FIFA World Cup in Russia in 2018.
This is not the first time though. They had earlier threatened similar action during Euro 2016 and the Rio Olympics last year.
In both cases people’s fears were unfounded and there is a good chance that the same will happen at the World Cup. However, we cannot take ISIS for granted. After all, they are known for striking without warning.
Needless to say, the security will be very high. In fact Russia has promised that the World Cup will go smoothly.
So how much of this threat should be taken seriously? Well it’s best to be cautious. This is because one cannot take any chances and the shadow of terror should not loom large over the biggest sports event in the world.
The countdown to the World Cup has already begun. It remains to be seen if it is remembered for reasons only related to football and nothing else.
