MS Dhoni currently has 9902 runs to his name in ODIs. In fact he has the most by the players who are active so he’s in theory closest to breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 18,426.But he needs 8565 runs to go past him and at 36, the odds of doing that are pretty less. But he is nearing another milestone.
Dhoni is closing in on the 10,000-run mark in ODIs. Since Sachin Tendulkar broke the barrier in 2001, many batsmen have made it past that mark. But Dhoni shall be the only the keeper to do it. So where does he stand? One must remember we are talking of players who have kept for a majority of their careers, which is why Rahul Dravid and AB de Villiers do not feature in this list. Here’s a look:
1. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 14,234
2. MS Dhoni (India) – 9902
3. Adam Gilchrist (Australia) – 9619
4. Andy Flower (Zimbabwe) – 6786
5. Brendon McCullum (New Zealand) – 6083
