Belonging to the reputed Kapoor family and referred as the the ultimate charmer of industry, Shashi Kapoor left for his heavenly abode yesterday, and the country mourned the loss of a legend thereafter.
“Yes, he has passed away. He had a kidney problem and was on dialysis for several years,” his nephew Randhir Kapoor, the son of the late Raj Kapoor, told PTI.
“Mere paas maa hai” – the man gave the industry this iconic dialogue that he mouthed with emotions so deep that it will remain etched in our hearts forever. The dialogue is so popular that each one of us have used it at some point in our lives. Even A.R. Rahman used it in his Oscar speech, while bagging the award for Orgininal Score (Slumdog Millionaire). Such was the enigma of this superstar.

Shashi Kapoor acted in more than 160 films, including some notable ones in English with Ivory-Merchant, Shakespeare Wallah and The Householder, and Conrad Rooks’ Siddhartha.
The three-time National Award winner is survived by his three children – Sanjana, Kunal and Karan.
Shashi Kapoor’s funeral and last rites will be held in Mumbai today.
