Sumeru Foods to enter Middle East market

BENGALURU: Sumeru Foods, which sells frozen food products, is looking to enter the Middle East market to cater to the vast expat Indian population in countries such as UAE.

The company has a notable presence in India and the US but Indians account for about 21% of UAE’s population which is expected to boost the company’s sales.

Sumeru, owned by Innovative Foods, is looking beyond the traditional frozen foods like frozen meat and vegetables and offering products like paratha and kebabs. There is also an effort to raise awareness among consumers that frozen food is not less healthy than products available in markets which are touted as “fresh.”

It has already established its presence in over 200 stores in the Middle East with future plans to tie up with large format retail chains stores and explore private label opportunities. As part of this process, It has launched frozen foods, curated by Michelin Star chef Alfred Prasad.
