The OnePlus 5 was one of the most talked about smartphones this summer as it is currently the best value for a premium Android smartphone. The OnePus 5 has officially been sold out in many countries and the company’s website has listed the device as “out of stock”. This could also be indicative of the fact that the Chinese company might be working on a brand new variant.
According to a report from GizmoChina, OnePlus is all set to launch the OnePlus 5T which will have a redesigned front and will feature a larger edge-to-edge display. The reason why OnePlus might be following the trend is that it will position the smartphone in competition with the Mi Mix 2, Galaxy Note 8, iPhone X and the newly announced Google Pixel 2.
We don’t necessarily see the need for the company to launch an updated version of the smartphone so soon as it has only been four months since the OP5 launched. The smartphone was put through the paces when we reviewed it and it preformed well during our tests so it wouldn’t be an unprecedented move, especially since the OP5 is currently sold out.

Last year, OnePlus decided to update the OnePlus 3 just six months after its initial release and launched one of the most beloved and successful smartphones i.e. the OnePlus 3T. The report further adds that the 5T will sport a larger 6-inch screen and will have an aspect ratio of 18:9. The device is also expected to have curved edges and the screen resolution will also be increased from 1,920 x 1,080 to 2,160 x 1,080. The only thing we can grab from the leaked image is that it looks eerily similar to the Galaxy S8 from the front.
When the OnePlus 3T launched last year, it included a faster processor, an improved camera and also a larger battery. The device was also more expensive than the OnePlus 3 and we can expect the same if OnePlus decides to revamp the OP5. You can also expect the device to retain the dual-camera system on the back and also take better Portrait shots. If we take the 3T pattern into consideration, we can also expect the 5T to cost more, which is a far cry from the company’s image. The Chinese company is known to manufacture smartphones with top of the line specs and premium design at an affordable price.
