Maheshwari will be based in Delhi and will report to Twitter’s vice-president and managing director of Asia Pacific, Maya Hari. He will start his new role on April 29 and oversee audience and revenue growth in the country.
“The future of India is digital-first and full of possibilities with the world’s largest youth population and soon, the world’s largest workforce. I believe we are scratching the surface of what’s possible with Twitter in India,” he said.
“India is one of our fastest growing audience markets for Twitter in the world and our purpose is to serve the public conversation in India… Under his leadership, we will continue to invest in India to empower all elements of Indian society to have a public voice to be heard through Twitter,” said Hari.
Maheshwari, who holds an MBA from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, was the CEO of Network18 Digital for three years before joining Twitter. He is taking over from Balaji Krish, who was the interim director for the past few months, Twitter said, adding that Krish will be returning to San Francisco to resume his role as global head of revenue strategy and operations.
